The following are the Major ERP Vendors

J.D Edwards – Three employees from an accounting firm formed J. D. Edwards, which is commonly referred as JDE in the ERP world. It has very strong presence in the manufacturing  industry. It was originally developed for IBM minicomputers. Later on, it was exported to AS/400, which is a mid-range server by IBM. In 1996 JDE launched One World, which was the latest offering by JDE and it is e-commerce enabled. In 2003 JDE was purchased by PeopleSoft.

PeopleSoft – It is a California based company formed by David Duffield in 1987. It is strong in the areas of Human Resource Management System ( HRMS ) and Customer Relationship Management ( CRM ). Later on it diversified in the fields of finance, distribution and logistic modules. PeopleCode is the programming language used for the development of PeopleSoft Application. The company was taken over by Oracle in 2004.

Oracle – It is commonly known as Oracle Apps or OApps in the ERP world. Oracle is the vendor for Oracle Relational Database Management System ( RDBMS ). On top of  RDBMS, Oracle has developed functional applications such as Financials and Project systems.  In Oracle all the applications are grouped together  and termed as OApps.
Oracle Financials, Oracle Projects, Oracle Procurement, Oracle HRMS and Oracle CRM are some of the OApps.

Microsoft Dynamics -  It is a suite of ERP and CRM applications developed b y  Microsoft  Business Solution Group.  Great Plains Software and Navison  were acquired by Microsoft in the year 2001 and 2002 respectively.


SAP Business One -  SAP  acquired an Israel based company  called Top Management Financial Services  to provide ERP solutions to small and medium business enterprises. The product was later branded and named as SAP Business One.
